Description
landmark building in Brussels, Belgium
Most popular tourist attraction in Brussels, serves as a museum, an art centre and a cultural place.
Was completed on 25 march 1958, just one month before the opening of the Expo (1958 Brussels World's Fair )
It stands 102 metres (335 ft) tall. Its nine 18-metre-diameter (59 ft) stainless steel clad spheres are connected in the shape of a unit cell that could represent an iron (ferrite) crystal magnified 165 billion times.
It was intended to honor the metals industry and celebrate the atomic age.
Only six of the nine spheres are accessible to the public, the three of the central axis and the three lower ones.
The building was completely renovated between 2004 and 2006
