Minecraft was created by a Swedish developer called Markus Persson, and is a sandbox video game that was released by Mojang in May 2009, and then purchased by Microsoft in 2014.
Jens "Jeb" Bergensten taking over in 2011.
Minecraft has sold over 180 million copies by 2019 and has over 112 million active players monthly.  
In Minecraft you can play in different worlds, modes, with friends, on your own, complete tasks, or you can explore worlds, fight mobs, extract raw materials, craft tools, build structures or earthworks in an intentional blocky, pixel generated 3D world.
