Montreal Biosphere
Basic information
Originally the American Pavilion at the Universal and International Exhibition of 1967, better known as Expo 67 . In 1968 the building takes its name: the Biosphère
The building originally formed an enclosed structure of steel and acrylic cells, 76 metres (249 ft) in diameter and 62 metres (203 ft) high
The building included a 37-metre-long (121 ft) escalator, the longest ever built at the time.
From 20 May 1976 until 1990 ( wnen plan for develop was approved), site remain closed after the accidental fire during structural renovations. A fire burned away the building's transparent acrylic bubble.
On June 5 1995, it was inaugurated as a water museum, and in 2007 changed its name to become an environment museum.
On 12 April 2021, The operation of the museum is transferred to Space for Life.
