NATO

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( or North Atlantic Alliance) was formed on the 4th April 1949 and now is an intergovernmental military alliance between 30 North American and European countries. When it was founded it only had 12 countries but now has 30 countries with the newest being North Macedonia that joined on the 27th March 2020. NATO is a collective defense system and this means that is one of the members is attacked by someone out of the alliance then the other states provide mutual defense in response to the attack. NATO's headquarters are located in Brussels, Belgium.
