Pioneering mathematician, she figured out the paths for the spacecraft to orbit (go around) Earth and to land on the Moon.

She did trajectory analysis for Alan Shepard's Freedom 7 mission in May 1961, America's first human spaceflight.

NASA human computer who calculated trajectories for Apollo space mission by hand. She works also on the the Space Shuttle and the Earth Resources Technology Satellite (Landsat), and others reports.

One of the first African-American women to work as a NASA scientist

Worked for NACA, NASA (1953–1986) 33 years. Worked as an aerospace technologist for 13 years until her retirement in 1986.

Died as 101 years old.

She has a building named after her at NASA, at the space agency's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. (The Katherine G. Johnson Computational Research Facility)
